This is one of my favorite therapies! You will be hooked on the relaxing and soothing effects of the cups on your sore, achy muscles. The cups will be mainly placed along your upper and lower back, hips and shoulders.

How Does Cupping Work?

Fire cupping (looks and feels as awesome as it sounds!) uses glass cups to generate an area of low pressure inside the cup, and therefore creating light suction when placed on the skin. As the air inside the cup cools, it contracts and gently lifts the connective tissue, or fascia, away from the muscles, creating space and increasing blood flow to the area of pain.

By increasing circulation to the affected areas, cupping not only relieves pain, but it also releases muscular tension, lactic acid build up, toxins and stress. Think of it as a reverse, deep tissue massage!

Zhao’s clinical study (2014) showed that both acupuncture stimulation of trigger points and cupping  can effectively relieve pain in Myofascial Pain Syndrome patients, while the combined therapeutic effect of cupping plus acupuncture treatment gives a longer analgesic effect. (p. 326)

Not Just For Pain

Cupping can also be used to help break up stubborn mucus in the lungs when you’re sick, as well as give your immune system a boost during the cold & flu season.

Celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Aniston, Victoria Beckham and Kourtney Kardashian have been rocking their cupping marks for a while!

Recently, doctors and physical therapists for major athletes such as Olympians, The Mets, Oakland As, Miami Heat and headliners such as Steph Curry, Dwayne Wade and Shaquille O’Neal have been using this form of therapy and they’ve been spotted with the tell tale signs of an awesome cupping session!
